Global Emergency Appeal

Amnesty International is launching a Global Emergency Appeal to stand with humanity and achieve a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. As pressure mounts on movements like ours, we urgently need to do more.

With 10 million members and supporters worldwide, Amnesty International has a unique opportunity to come together and shine a brighter light than we ever have before. As the voices that promote division, polarisation and distrust grow louder around the world, we need your urgent help protect and support human rights campaigners around the globe.

What's happening?

A growing anti-human rights agenda is taking hold. As the world’s largest human rights movement, Amnesty International is facing these attacks at an increasing rate for being independent and speaking truth to power. Our work, offices, staff and human rights advocates are being threatened.

Amnesty International offices under attack

In the last few years alone, Amnesty’s office in India has been forced to halt work after its funds were frozen by the Indian government. Two members of Amnesty’s Turkey office were imprisoned under spurious charges. Amnesty’s office in Nigeria has been subjected to a concerted smear campaign by the government. These are just the most recent examples of a growing crackdown on civil society organisations.

During 2020, many states have used pandemic-related restrictions as a pretext to continue with attempts to shrink civic space and crack down on human rights defenders, or simply to silence those who have raised concerns about the way authorities have dealt with the pandemic.

This has catastrophic consequences for everyone’s human rights.

What is Amnesty International doing?

We are launching our first Global Emergency Appeal to ensure we can continue to champion human rights for all during this unprecedented crisis.

We must make sure the light we shine on human rights is brighter and strengthens the values and voices that will create a positive future for everyone. We will not be silenced by governments trying to sweep human rights abuses under the rug.

We need to protect those on the front line while scaling up, speaking out and becoming an even more the powerful force for human rights.

How you can help

Please make an urgent donation today to help protect and support human rights advocates who are in danger for speaking out against injustice. They're facing arbitrary detention, government harassment and unlawful surveillance.

Your donation, combined with our global movement, will help provide emergency assistance to human rights advocates needing urgent help and support them to continue their work as beacons of hope, justice and aroha for us all.
