The vast majority of people (80%) would welcome refugees with open arms, with many even prepared to take them into their own homes, according to a global survey commissioned by Amnesty International.
Council of Ministers of Thailand has ratified the “Convention on Enforced Disappearance” and passed the resolution to approve the “Draft of Act on Torture and Enforced Disappearance” and submitted it to the NLA for consideration. The next step is to see how relevant the contents in such bill are to the international standards.
As Thailand marks two years since the military took over, Amnesty International is concerned to note persistent human rights violations, in particular arbitrary and increasing restrictions on peaceful dissent. We are also concerned that there have been no signs that authorities plan to lift restrictions on the peaceful exercise of freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly, which authorities originally promised as temporary when they took power in a military coup.
Many Thai and foreign media representatives have agreed that the freedom of media in Thailand has been reduced over the past 2 years. They also stated that while citizen journalists have played a more important role in the discussion event by NBTC, Amnesty and Thai Broadcast Journalists Association.

The submission was prepared for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Thailand taking place in May 2016. In it, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of recommendations made in the previous cycle of the UPR.
