Every year, people from around the world take part in Amnesty International’s Write for Rights campaign.

The human rights education toolkit for this year’s Write for Rights campaign can help educators and participants to gain more understanding and build solidarity, preparing them to take action. These human rights education activities can take place in a variety of settings, such as a school classroom, a community group, a family or an activist group.

Each year, Amnesty International’s Write for Rights campaign teams up with people worldwide to fight injustice and support those whose human rights are being threatened. 

Arnon Nampha, a fearless human rights lawyer, is serving over 14 years in prison for defending freedom of expression and peaceful assembly in Thailan and may face up to 150. Many activists, held without bail, face harsh charges under lèse-majesté laws for simply speaking out. 

Environmental lawyer Dang Dinh Bach dedicates his life to protecting people in Viet Nam from pollution and the climate crisis. On 24 June 2021, he was arrested for alleged tax evasion, a tactic used by the authorities to silence environmental activists. He was sentenced to five years in prison. Sign the petition and call on Viet Nam to free Bach immediately.

Egyptian authorities have held 27-year-old student Oqba Hashad in pretrial detention since May 2019, in retaliation for his brother’s human rights activism. Oqba was forcibly disappeared, tortured and denied the prosthetic leg he has used to move unassisted since a childhood accident. Sign the petition and demand his immediate release.

Wetʼsuwetʼen land defenders are being criminally prosecuted just for defending their lands. Now they are fighting for its very survival, and the survival of our planet during a global climate crisis. Sign the petition and help them protect their land.

Manahel al-Otaibi is serving an 11-year prison sentence in Saudi Arabia. A brave defender of women’s rights, a “terrorism” court gave her an incredibly harsh punishment merely for promoting women’s rights and expressing herself on social media. Sign the petition and demand the Saudi Arabian authorities free her immediately.

Kyung Seok Park refuses to wait any longer for the rights of people with disabilities to be fully recognized in South Korea. Despite facing violence and harassment, he continues to fight so people with disabilities can live freely and fully in South Korea. Help him take action now.

Political activist Maryia Kalesnikava challenged the repressive Belarus government. On 7 September 2020, Maryia was abducted by the Belarus authorities, detained, and later sentenced to 11 years in prison on false charges. Maryia’s family haven’t heard from her for over a year.
