On Saturday 25 May, there will be speeches on \u201cMake the World a Better Place: How Ordinary People Inspire Extraordinary Change\u201d by Kovit Wongsurawat, former lecturer, influencer, columnist, writer; Yingcheep Atchanont, Programme Manager of Internet Law Reform Dialogue (iLaw); and Sirin Mungcharoen, Vice President of the Student Council of Chulalongkorn University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artist Statement

My work consists mostly of site specific installations. I use different media – wood chips, fabric, wax paintings, sand, photography, or salt for example. I choose whatever medium helps best express my – often ethereal concepts. I want my installations to be approachable – and at the same time I hope to get a visceral response from the visitors.

A lot of my installations have a meditative element to them \u2013 a piece of material that gets blown around by fans, a line in the sand that gets washed away by ocean waves, a design in salt that gets erased by visitors\u2019 feet, etc.

This salt installation is based on the scripture where Jesus says. “You are the salt of the earth”. To illustrate the second part of the scripture \u201cBut if the salt looses it\u2019s flavor…\u201c, I invite people to walk on the work after it has been completed and in the process destroy it under their feet.

The walking on the salt illustrates two things. First, from a Christian perspective, if we do not add flavor to the lives of those around us, our efforts are useless. Second, from a human rights perspective, if we are ignorant to the intricacies of the lives of the refugees living among us, we don\u2019t connect with them.

My desire is that the participants experience the erasure of the work as the removal of ignorance – as a liberation to start new relationships with fellow human beings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fifty-eight years ago, Peter Benenson\u2019s outrage at the imprisonment of two students for raising a toast to freedom prompted a powerful network of solidarity. Today this network unites over 7 million people in 150 countries in common action against injustice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In honour of that defining moment in our history, we\u2019re asking you, wherever you are, to join us in raising a toast to humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The right to being honest and free to speak, the real matter, to discussed on any issue and being accept and respect as one idea, honest is quite hard to find in today world, people tended to pretending or doing a fake smile instead of being honest to what they\u2019re really thinking, the matter of real feeling or thought are not important these day, we tended to make all situation alright instead of discussed on what is suppose to be discussed, as we\u2019re all silent to our mind our thought how come things could be develop without the real idea?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We tended to find temporary peace just because we don\u2019t wanna fight or think, it\u2019s easier to just smile and let things go while not knowing that smile we cost a lot later. what is the problem of being honest? why we ignored thing just to cherish other? why don\u2019t we just being true to ourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Watta (Circular)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Light of Hope Performance Art: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Watta is a circle or circulation according to the principles of Buddhism. It includes three things; passion, karma and motocross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These three matters are cause and effect to each other and occur repeatedly in circulation. Therefore, it is thought provoking how human right and Watta are ralated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workshop : Freedom and Fluidity in Art<\/p>\n\n\n\n

by Tada Hengsapkul, a multidisciplinary contemporary artist whose practice is often concerned with questions of freedom and social agency. In his practice, he continues his mission to expose aspects of Thai history and to unleash repression. Although his subject matter is often specific to Thailand, his work also strikes a chord in a world rife with censorship. He often employs a strategy of visually overwhelming his audiences in order to encourage them to analyse what they see. In 2016 he was chosen one of the 30 Under 30, photographer, by Forbes. In 2019 he was selected one of the Top 10 Asian Artists to Watch by Blouin Modern Painters magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soul Sunday’s mission is to provide humanitarian aid to Immigration Detention Center (IDC) detainees in the form of food, clean water, and hygienic products to IDC detainees in need. Gifts, donations and funds raised by Soul Sunday events and community friends are used for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
