What happened?
Liu Xia is an artist and poet. Since her late husband Liu Xiaobo had received the Nobel Peace Price in 2010, she has been living under illegall house arrest in China.
After her husband died of cancer in 2017, she still faces surveillance and restrictions by the Chinese authorities. Her health is in a bad condition, as she suffers from clinical depression. Under house arrest, nobody can help her.
"Now, I have nothing to be afraid of. If I can't leave, I'll die in my home. Xiaobo is gone, and there's nothing for me now."
Despite the Chinese authorities have promised Liu Xia that she would be able to leave the country and seek treatment abroad, the promises have never been fulfilled. What is worse, the authorities first create wishful thinking, and then break their promises again and again.
The Chinse government must immediately release Liu Xia from illegal house arrest, meet with her family and friends, and allow her travel abroad for medical treatment.
